The First day of my Jurney

20.08.2021

At about 11:30 AM i left my home in Germany.

I put google maps on my Phone, typed in ‘Freilassing’ (a town in Austria) and went on my Journey. I vaguely knew where i needed to go, so when my navigation told me to go eastward i knew something wasn’t right. Quickly checking told me, there’s actually two Towns called Freilassing and my navigation tried to lead me to the wrong one!

So i typed in ‘Freilassing next to Salzburg’ and went on my way for a second time, this time hopfully in the right direction.

After a couple of hours of riding (to the correct location) i arrived in Freilassing where i bought a vignette and headed onto the austrian Autobahn (the A10) and rode the 200km to Villach with only a few stops. On one of the stops i doscovered that the seals (which i tried to Seal with gasket maker a week prior to department) were all still leaking! Although they did not leak as much as before, i was very happy i brought about 1 Liter of oil which should be enough for plenty of riding before the bottle needs a refill.

From Villach i headed South-west to the Wurzenpass, which was actually my first time riding a mountain Pass which was fun and exciting! What was a bit worrying was the fact that every single car that i passed smelled like burning brakes…

When i had finished worrying about brakeless vehicles flying down the road ,I went on to Zaga where i wanted to begin riding in the TET.

Sadly, however my Navigation once again tried to fool me and sent me across the Border to italy. When i arrived Back at the Border to Slovenia, a guy was standing at a Pass and told me they were doing some construction work, so the road is closed from 19-6 o clock. Coincidentally it was about 19:03 when i arrived and He didn’t want to let me go. So i turned around, went a couple hundred meters down the road and turned to a trail into the woods. After about another hundred Meters i saw two trees, that were in good distance to each other in order for me to put my hammock inbetween, so i stopped there and set up my camp for the night.

At about 21 o clock- when i was just eating bread and sausages that I had bought in Villach- a guy came along the trail.

I talked to hin and he said its fine to sleep here and that there are no large animals around here at this time of the year.

Some time during the night i heared voices, so i peeked out of my hammock to see about 50 people Walking along a trail in the distance. They had flashlights and loudly talked in italian. I don’t know what they were doing but i guess some kind of night-hiking (?)

When i woke up in the morning, I was very hungry, but I didn’t buy enough food for breakfast, so i Just made some coffee before quickly packing all my stuff and going on my way.

About an hour later i arrived in Zaga and went on my first couple of Kilometers in the TET, but thats a story for another time.
