Riding the TET (Day 1 | Slovenia)

21.08.2021

My first few kilometers on the TET were awesome!

Small roads curving along mountains for kilometer after kilometer.

I stopped in a small town, sat in a cafe and had breakfast, while talking to some fellow riders i had met there. They were very nice but sadly they were going in the other direction along the tet, so after finishing our meal we said goodbye and went seperate ways.

Somewhere down the road i noticed that i should propably have gotten food at the local Store but i decided i would *surely* find another store in the next town.

I got tho the point where the way parted and i decided to go with the Green Track, because that looked more interesting. It was awesome! I loved riding the roads, which welcomed me to the tet, by showing me how slippery loose gravel can be! I saw some people on bikes and enjoyed the nature.

Sadly however, i still had nothing to eat, so at about 15 o clock. Constantly staying on the fine line between under- and oversteering was proper tiring! I upped my pace as I did not want to spend a night in the mountains without dinner or breakfast the next morning!

Everything has an end and so did the Green Track. At some point the road, that had altered between going up and down before, started only descending. Soon I was Back on the Red track where I continued my way down into the valley to Ajdovscina.

The paved road was relatively steep downhill and as i got further down the mountains, it got hotter and hotter rapidly. I opened all air vents of my riding gear and went on.

When arriving down in the valley, I sat at the side of the road for a few minutes to relax before looking up the location of the next store and heading its way.

When i was about halfway there a wasp flew into the back of my riding Jacket and stung me at least twice! I stopped as fast as possible and took my grar of at record speeds! My already miserable situation had just become a lot worse and i was really pissed.

When i got to the store, I bought lots of food and loaded it on my bike. Somehow the people there were a little disturbed by the 2m tall , dirty guy in full motorcycle gear walking in the store with the temperature outside being in the low thirties! The situation was hilarious but in my state i did not care at all. I ate two Apples on the spot and decided to continue a little in the TET before setting up my camp somewhere on the way.

This however was a very bad idea. As it Turns out, the vegetation in the valley is less than ideal to accommodate a hammock. I tried to set it up at a few spots and it didn’t work. Either there was flimsy shrubs or man-made groves with the trees being too far apart.

The sun went down and it was quickly getting darker, so i looked for the next campsite in a town nearby and decided to stay at “Kamp David” in Malovse.

This was a very nice spot and after eating about a days worth of food, showering and setting up my hammock, I immediately went to sleep.

It was actually a lot nicer than sleeping in the wild so I`m definitely considering doing that more often.

Hallo Jonas,
