Riding the TET (Day 5 | Croatia)

25.08.2021

In the morning I got up early, packed my stuff and headed for the Croatian Border.

After riding along the border (a River) for a while I came to the border house. They checked my documents, everything went smoothly and five minutes later I was in Croatia.

Started riding the TET for a couple of kilometers. It was a nice couple of kilometers of paved roads, then I stopped for a quick snack.

I saw some adventure riders on big bikes, they were from the Netherlands. As the trail left the paved Road, so did they. They stopped at an intersection. I talked to them and they asked me if Iwas riding the TET. They had been riding along the TET for a while, so I assumed they were following the same path as I was.

I asked them if I could follow them for a while and they said yes.

I should have asked them though, because after about 5km I noticed that we weren’t on the TET anymore!

That was when they actually told me they were following a different route, so i said goodbye and headed back to the TET.

I continued for a while, the roads were nice, the weather was still fine.

At some Point i even saw some wild horses!

I don’t actually know,if they were wild horses but there was no fence or anything and they had no leashes on them.

About one Kilometer later I stopped to rest at a gravel road with an awesome view!

That was where I looked at the weatherforecast. It said there was a huge wave of rain coming from North West, that was going to give me at least 3 days of even colder weather and continuous rain. On top of that I was still a bit sick and that would surely get only worse with the rain, so I decided Ihad to find somewhere to stay for half a week.

I decided I was going to gracac. There, a friend of a friend of mine has a very nice pension (Pension ADA in Gracac) very close to the TET.

I decided that was where I was staying until the bad weather was over. This however meant that there was a long way ahead of me, so i started going.

I rode on the TET continuous for a long time, only stopping to eat something.

The trail had lead up into the mountains and onto some sparsly populated highlands.

Up there it was very cloudy and very cold, so I didn’t want to get cought by the rain up there. Some time, shortly before sunset I was near Gracac, so I left the TET and headed to the pension where I was to stay for the next few days.

In summary i rode a little over 320km that day.

I know I should not have done that, since my experience of the TET Croatia was not as good as it could have been.

However I did not want to get caught by the rain and I still want to make it to Greece in time.
